Inoperable vehicles, damaged electricity grids and the end of the internet could be impacts of an electromagnetic pulse (EMP) originated by a weapons system or as a result of a solar eruption. The new NATO Innovation Challenge, which is organised by the Defence and Security Innovation Hub of the Czech Republic and the NATO ACT Innovation Hub, is focused on the security risk that this phenomenon represents for our society and military.
In this way, both organisations are seeking methods for preventing EMPs, mitigating their impacts and restoring infrastructure after they occur. At the same time, the objective of the challenge is to connect the North Atlantic Alliance with the community of innovative solution providers that includes industry, academia and the public across all NATO member countries.
People from around the world who have a similar solution or idea can sign up for the challenge with a three-page abstract until 24 April 2019. The ten best will present their ideas in person or online to an expert jury in Brno on 30 May 2019. The winner will receive an opportunity in the form of contractual cooperation with NATO.
