Municipalities need nearly 4.7 million gloves, 2.2 million face masks and one million respirators every week. In addition to that, they require nearly 2.7 million shoe covers, protective garments, safety glasses, face shields, half-masks, rapid tests, sample collection kits, disinfectant pads and disinfectants (l). This is based on responses from representatives of municipalities with extended competence in a survey conducted by CzechInvest on the basis of a request from the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of the Interior. The survey was carried out in cooperation with the Confederation of Cities and Municipalities of the Czech Republic.

“We initiated the structured survey in the first half of April. We determined the average weekly requirement for medical and personal protective equipment for employees of municipal, church and private medical and social facilities and municipal units of the integrated rescue system. The questionnaire was sent to all 205 municipalities with extended competence with the aim of determining the needs of the entire administrative district. Exactly one hundred came back to us,” says Patrik Reichl, CEO of CzechInvest.

As the situation in the Czech Republic develops, it is necessary to think about sufficient protection of all employees of the integrated rescue system, field services and outpatient and inpatient facilities in municipalities. “The state had previously mapped the need for medical and personal protective equipment for employees of state and regional entities. In our survey, we focused on the previously undetermined needs of cities and municipalities. In addition to that, the provided data can contribute to the creation of demand for the products of Czech suppliers. Last week, we also handed the data over to the Central Crisis Staff,” Reichl adds.

The return rate of the questionnaires reached nearly 50%. The total needs of all municipalities were calculated based on the size category of administrative districts and average requirements. The data do not include Prague, whose needs are determined within a survey of the country’s regions.
