Nanofibres fill the air in the European Parliament

The Nanoday event was held at the European Parliament in Brussels on Thursday, 3 May 2018. During the event, nanofibres were produced in the shape of spider webs filling the air and experiments involving objects made of nanofibres were carried out. The event was organised by vice-president of the European Parliament Pavel Telička in cooperation with the Nano Association of the Czech Republic, CzechInvest, the NanoProgress cluster and the Technology Centre of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. The purpose of Nanoday was to present the Czech Republic as a country with strong potential in the area of nanotechnology and to stimulate discussion of its better use.

In the course of the event, several Czech nanotechnology firms and organisations were presented to those in attendance and practical demonstrations were provided. For example, Pavel Telička poured water and coffee on a necktie made using nanomaterials, which remained clean despite his efforts. The attendees were also able to see and try a pillow made of nanofabric that prevents accumulation of dust mites, allergens, viruses and bacteria. Demonstrations of antiviral masks, nanofabrics, clothing and nanocosmetics were also provided along with examples of nano-optics, portable air-cleaners using nanotechnology, 3D nanobatteries and nanofibre respirators.
