In cooperation with IBM, CzechInvest is organising the Innovative Blockchain Hackathon, which will take place in Prague in mid-February 2019. Thanks to the hackathon, programmers, graphic designers, developers and other tech enthusiasts will gain access to the Hyperledger Composer and Hyperledger Fabric blockchain technologies from IBM. Their task will be to prepare, over the course of 24 hours, an innovative project involving the use of these technologies in practice.

Competing teams will seek uses for blockchain technologies, i.e. technologies using shared transparent databases, in four areas: fintech, e-government, transportation and logistics and space technologies. The winning team will receive a financial award in the amount of CZK 100,000 and, mainly, support for the further development of its project.

Participants will prepare to compete in the hackathon at workshops to be held in January and February with the purpose of familiarising them with the Hyperledger Composer and Hyperledger Fabric technologies. The workshops will also prepare them for possible legal obstacles that their innovative ideas may encounter and show them what can be built on blockchain in the current business conditions.

“Blockchain technologies have tremendous potential, as they save costs and are able to elegantly handle even difficult ideas. Among other things, they can thus be used to modernise the state administration,” explains Jana Šmotková of CzechInvest.

Both teams and individuals can sign up for the hackathon. More detailed information on the Innovative Blockchain Hackathon and the workshops preceding it, including registration for participants, is available at www.blockchainhackathon.cz.
