The Czech Republic plays an important role in the automotive industry and related sectors. This is due primarily to its exceptional location, good infrastructure and skilled workforce. The country is home to three key vehicle manufacturers – Škoda Auto, TPCA and Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Czech. At the same time, it has excellent business opportunities for suppliers and is prepared to strengthen its position as one of the leading European centres for design and research and development activities in the mobility sector. With its history of precision manufacturing dating back more than a century, top-level research and support for highly innovative companies and ideas, the Czech Republic has the necessary prerequisites to maintain its position among the leaders of the sector in the future and to become a centre of future mobility.

As one of the main current trends in this sector, clean mobility is on the rise in the Czech Republic. The growth of awareness of electromobility is driven by the activities of key players – manufacturers of electric cars and buses, universities, research and development centres, electricity distributors and associations promoting electromobility. In 2019, demand for electric vehicles doubled in the country, which was due both to the expanding portfolio of brands and models, as well as the growing charging infrastructure and broader awareness among customers.

The Czech Republic is a competitive location for establishing research and development centres. Domestic technical universities are accustomed to collaborating with global manufacturers and providing services in the area of research, development and testing. This can also be demonstrated in the development of autonomous driving technologies. The Central European Institute of Technology (CEITEC) is collaborating with Daimler, Bosch, ZF and NXP on the development of fully automated vehicles. Together with Volkswagen and IBM, the Czech Technical University in Prague is participating in the UP-Drive project. Valeo established its main research centre for autonomous technologies in Prague, and BMW is building its Future Development mobility Centre in Sokolov.
