More than 120 participants attended, among them many guests of honour –Shotaro Yachi– the Japanese Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hajime Sasaki – the Co-Chairman of the Committee for Europe of the Federation of Japanese Economic Societies (Keidanren) of the Council for Europe, H.E. Hideaki Kumazawa – the Ambassador of Japan to the Czech Republic and a whole host of other distinguished representatives of the Japanese government or academic sphere.

The main aim of the Czech – Japan Science and Technology Days was to provide an overview of the Czech R&D bodies structure, S&T policy principles, Czech government priorities and programs as well as important achievements and prospects. The seminar contributed to the exchange of important information on recent trends and priorities in the field of science and technology, with emphasis on precision engineering, robotics, cybernetics, electronics and microelectronics. The seminar was also a platform for presentation of examples of many recent Japan-Czech joint R&D projects and their results.

Czech Republic has recently managed to attract a large number of Japanese companies that successfully started operations in various kinds of businesses here. There are 160 Japanese companies registered in the country, 65 of them are directly involved in manufacturing sector, 3 are engaged in research and development (R&D), 4 in other sectors, 88 in trading and commerce.
