The third edition of the biggest start event of the year, Czech Startup Week New York, will take place from 1 to 9 May 2019. CzechInvest is accompanying six beginning Czech firms – Enehano Solutions, Miomove, Sharry Europe, Travel a la carte, UNIOSO and Bookcore – to the event with support from the CzechAccelerator, CzechDemo and CzechMatch projects and the economic diplomacy project of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Four firms currently staying in New York in connection with the CzechAccelerator project – MobileSoft, iDevBand, Syncfony and AIK IT DIGITAL – are also participating in the event. CzechInvest has prepared an extensive programme for the start-ups in cooperation with the Consulate General of the Czech Republic in New York and the local VentureOut incubator.

The start-ups will begin their stay in New York with breakfast at the Consulate General of the Czech Republic in New York, where they will meet with representatives of the organisers as well as with Czech firms that are already successfully operating in New York. They will continue with a series of workshops on the topic of the New York start-up ecosystem, fundraising and financing, and scaling under the leadership of experienced mentors.

Subsequently, on 2 May 2019, seven start-ups will exhibit at the TechDay New York trade fair, the biggest start-up event of its kind in the United States. On the following days, the firms will attend a number of workshops, seminars, mentoring sessions and more or less formal meetings with the local start-up community, specialists, potential partners and entrepreneurs who are active on the American market.

The highlight of the stay in New York for the programme participants will be Czech Startup Week Demo Night on 6 May 2019, during which the firms will try out presentations of their products and services in front of an expert audience and panel of investors, among whom they may find potential future investors or business partners. From 7 to 9 May 2019, the start-ups from the CzechMatch project will attend a series of workshops and B2B meetings.

The purpose of Czech Startup Week New York and CzechInvest’s projects is to contribute to the development of the Czech start-up ecosystem including expansion of firms to foreign markets. “I believe we can say that Czech firms are succeeding with our assistance. For example, Motionhouse, which completed the CzechAccelerator project just last March, is finishing personalised videos for its first local client, Sharry Europe’s solution will be used in a building in Boston and the start-up Travel a la carte has successfully opened a branch in New York,” says Jan Chmelík, CzechInvest’s representative in New York.
