Seven Czech companies exhibited at the Gamescom trade fair in Cologne, Germany, from 20-22 August 2019. More than one thousand exhibitors attended the trade fair, which is one of the biggest gaming events in the world. The Czech Republic’s national stand featured the Czech development studios Charles Games, Outside the Fox, Bohemia Interactive, Gold Knights, Charged Monkey, BadFly Interactive and Czech Games Edition. With support from the Czech Game Developers Association, the Ministry of Industry and Trade and representatives of CzechInvest, Czech Games Edition presented new games and addressed potential partners.

One hundred meetings were held in connection with the Czech exhibition during the trade fair. “Participation in Gamescom was beneficial for us. We met with investors and publishers with whom we did not have an opportunity to open talks at other events,” said Lukáš Kolek, product manager at Charles Games. Representatives of CzechInvest also held talks at the event with foreign companies that expressed interest in entering the Czech market.

The trade fair was opened by German Federal Minister of Transportation Andreas Scheuer, Minister for Digitisation Dorothee Bär, Deputy Prime Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia Joachim Stamp and Cologne Mayor Henriette Reker. “The Czech exhibition placed the Czech Republic among the countries with an advanced gaming industry and raised the visibility of the local game-development market not only in Europe, but in the whole world,” said Pavel Barák, chairman of the Czech Game Developers Association.
