CeBIT, the world’s most important event in the field of information and communication technologies, took place in Hannover from 20 to 24 March 2017. State-of-the-art ICT solutions for public- and private-sector systems were exhibited by more than three thousand firms from seventy countries. Two hundred thousand people attended the trade fair.

This year’s edition of the event was opened by German Chancellor Angela Merkel together with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzō Abe. CzechInvest CEO Karel Kučera was also in attendance.

A seminar on the topic of Czech-Japanese cooperation in the area of digitalisation was held in the Japanese pavilion on Tuesday, 21 March 2017. Professor Vladimír Mařík’s opening presentation focused on Industry 4.0 in the Czech Republic. CzechInvest CEO Karel Kučera provided information about Japanese investments in the Czech Republic and opportunities offered by Czech research and development. The seminar was concluded with a presentation by the general manager of JETRO Prague, Tadashi Murakamim, who focused on cooperation between Japan and the Czech Republic.

The main theme of CeBIT 2017 was the digital economy. In particular cases, visitors could see the possible uses of digitalisation in practice, from a minibus that uses artificial intelligence to respond to passengers’ queries, to drones and smart cities.

New areas of using artificial intelligence were presented in particular by Japan, the trade fair’s partner country. In a 7,200 m2 exhibition space, 120 Japanese firms presented their latest developments in the field of digital innovations.
