TPCA starts production of redesigned cars

Toyota Peugeot Citroën Automobile Czech (TPCA) symbolically commenced production of redesigned second-generation vehicles at its plant in Kolín on Wednesday, 9 May 2018. With a trio of new cars – the Toyota Aygo, Peugeot 108 and Citroën C1 – serving as the backdrop, the ribbon-cutting ceremony was presided over by the presidents of the Japanese-French carmaker, Koreatsu Aoki and Eric Brochard, CzechInvest CEO Silvana Jirotková, and Vít Rakušan, mayor of Kolín.

“TPCA’s entry into the Czech market in 2002 still remains the second-biggest investment that we have helped to arrange,” says Silvana Jirotková, CEO of CzechInvest. “The carmaker not only ranks among the biggest employers in the region and pays taxes amounting to billions of korunas into the government’s coffers, but it also cooperates with dozens of Czech suppliers.”

TPCA began manufacturing the compact Toyota Aygo, Peugeot 107 and Citroën C1 city cars in 2005 and introduced the second-generation Toyota Aygo, Peugeot 108 and Citroën C1 in 2014. Over the course of thirteen years, more than one million units of each model have been manufactured. The cars produced in Kolín can be found on roads throughout Europe, from Iceland to Greece, and as far afield as South Africa and Israel. Great Britain, France, Germany, the Netherlands and Italy have ranked among the most important markets in recent years.

TPCA is a joint enterprise of Toyota Motor Corporation and PSA Group. The TPCA plant built in the Kolín-Ovčáry industrial zone began turning out cars in 2005. Costing CZK 26 billion, the plant was the biggest investment in the Czech Republic at the time of its construction. CzechInvest assisted with bringing the investment to the Czech Republic and administrated investment incentives for the investor. TPCA currently employs 2,700 people in Kolín and is one of the biggest exporters in the Czech Republic.
