Over 5,200 firms from more than sixty countries were in Düsseldorf, Germany, from 12 to 15 November 2018 to present their products at MEDICA, the world’s largest medical trade fair. This year’s edition of the event attracted more than 120,000 visitors and was also attended by 46 Czech firms, some of which exhibited at the CzechTrade or Ministry of Industry and Trade stand. Representatives of CzechInvest held a number of meetings with German firms regarding possibilities of investing in the Czech Republic.
The dominant theme of the trade fair was digitalisation. Firms exhibited a number of new medical instruments and aids using smart applications. Visitors could see artificial intelligence in practice especially at the MEDICA CONNECTED HEALTH CARE FORUM, which featured, for example, smart prostheses. MEDICA was an ideal opportunity also for start-ups, as it offered the opportunity to present products through the broadest range of forums. At the MEDICA START-UP PARK, for example, the products on display included a smart instrument for retina examinations and a smart bandage with monitoring of the treatment process using red and blue LED lights.
The MEDICA international medical trade fair is the world’s biggest event in the healthcare sector. It annually attracts the attention of the expert public – physicians and medical personnel, managers of hospitals, care facilities and laboratories, healthcare technology dealers, and representatives of the healthcare industry and health insurers. MEDICA took place concurrently with the COMPAMED trade fair focused on suppliers of medical technology.
The next edition of MEDICA will take place in Düsseldorf from 18 to 21 November 2019.
