Czech Business Afternoon in London

Czech Business Afternoon – a seminar on British trade policy and business and investment opportunities in the Czech Republic – was held in London on Wednesday, 6 June 2018. The event was part of a trade mission to Great Britain carried out by the Chamber of Commerce of the Czech Republic under the leadership of its president, Vladimír Dlouhý. In addition to the mission participants – including, for example, the mechanical-engineering firm Vítkovice Heavy Machinery, construction company VKM Solutions and Cross Zlín, a supplier of light signalling equipment and systems – the seminar was attended by representatives of British companies and of CzechInvest, CzechTrade, the Czech-British Chamber of Commerce and the British Chamber of Commerce in Prague.

Chris Barton of the British government’s Department for International Trade spoke about the future of the UK’s trade policy, clarifying the current phase of negotiation and assuring those in attendance that the British government intends to continue to promote free and fair trade following Brexit. James Gee of Ernst & Young spoke about the legal aspects of trading on the financial market after Great Britain leaves the European Union. Martin Partl, head of CzechInvest’s Foreign Offices Department, gave a presentation focused on investment opportunities in the Czech Republic in the context of Brexit. Filip Franek of the British Chamber of Commerce in Prague then described opportunities in the area of trade. The seminar was followed by a networking garden party, which took place in parallel with business meetings between Czech and British firms.
