Traditional diplomacy is being challenged by its tech alternative

DiploFoundation and the Geneva Internet Platform have mapped current diplomatic landscape and summarized their findings in a report that was launched at the event in San Francisco on Thursday, 12 April 2018. Selected government representatives from around the world were invited to pitch their models of “tech diplomacy”. Director of West Coast Operations at CzechInvest, Miroslav Tenkl, presented how the agency understands and deals with this term as well as explained how the mission of the CzechInvest representation in the Bay Area has evolved over the years the office has been present there.

Traditional diplomacy is being challenged in the 21st century. Today, tech companies engage more people than any given nation, and some are responsible for decisions and impacts once limited to governments. To stay at the forefront of tech developments, governments are taking on new forms of diplomacy to secure the rights of citizens, and to warrant safe and successful future development for their countries.
