In the first week of April, four Czech start-ups arrived in New York, where over the next three months they will gain experience in the local VentureOut incubator with support from CzechInvest’s CzechAccelerator project. A series of workshops, mentoring, consulting and other events aimed at preparing the firms AIK IT Digital, MobileSoft, Syncfony and iDevBand for possible entry to the local market have been organised.

“Working with Czech companies has opened our eyes. The culture of innovation and entrepreneurialism in the Czech Republic is one the strongest that we have seen and the success of those that have taken part in the CzechAccelerator programme is evidence of that. Czech alumni have successfully started doing business on the American market, hired local teams and found their initial customers here. These successes wouldn’t be possible without our partnership with CzechInvest and its determination to support the Czech community of beginning entrepreneurs through CzechAccelerator,” says Brian Frumberg, founder and CEO of the VentureOut accelerator.

Three other Czech start-ups, which arrived in New York at the beginning of the year, have already benefited from a three-month stay in the New York start-up community. Travel A la Carte established its first American branch. “We are very pleased that we succeeded in introducing our application in New York, which is the third-biggest market in which we operate after the EU and China. The programme enabled us to gain important contacts and greatly eased this step for us in general,” says Ivana Hronová, CEO of Travel A la Carte.

The start-ups Sharry Europe and Motionhouse also managed to obtain orders in the United States. A building in Boston will use Sharry Europe’s solution and Motionhouse is completing personalised videos for its first local client.

The send-off of the departing firms and welcoming of the arriving start-ups was organised by CzechInvest’s New York office in cooperation with KBC Bank, the parent company of ČSOB, on Thursday, 4 April 2019, at the coworking centre of the Belgian Chamber of Commerce.

During April, five other Czech start-ups will depart for three-month stays in London and Silicon Valley.

Czech Startup Week awaits the Czech start-ups in New York at the beginning of May 2019. In addition to the participants in the CzechAccelerator project, the event will also be attended by seven other Czech start-ups supported by CzechInvest’s CzechDemo and CzechMatch projects and the economic diplomacy projects of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Besides participation in TechDay, the biggest start-up event of its kind in the United States, the Czech start-ups will go through a week packed with workshops, seminars, mentoring and other events that CzechInvest is organising in cooperation with the Consulate General of the Czech Republic in New York.
