American Airlines launches direct route between Prague and Philadelphia

American Airlines, the world’s biggest carrier, began operation of a direct route between Václav Havel Airport Prague (PRG) and Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) on Saturday, 4 May 2018. The new transatlantic route will be operated daily until 27 October 2018. This is the second direct route from the Czech Republic to the United States after Delta Airlines’ service from Prague to New York (JFK).

According to the published schedule, flights will depart Prague daily at 11:30 a.m., arriving in Philadelphia at 3:10 p.m. local time. Flights from Philadelphia to Prague will depart at 6:30 p.m. local time, arriving at Václav Havel Airport at 9:05 a.m. the following day. American Airlines offers economy and business classes on the flights, which carry up to 2,800 passengers weekly.

Operation of the Prague-Philadelphia route is an essential infrastructural improvement of the Czech Republic’s accessibility from the United States and North America generally for both business travellers and tourists. American Airlines concurrently launched a seasonal route from Philadelphia to Budapest on 4 May 2018.

The ceremonial opening of the route in Philadelphia was attended by the Czech Republic’s ambassador to the United States, Hynek Kmoníček; the consul general of the Czech Republic in New York, Miroslav Rameš; vice-chairman of the board of directors of Václav Havel Airport Prague, Radek Hovorka; CEO of CzechTourism, Monika Palatková; director of CzechTourism’s New York Office, Michaela Claudino; and CzechInvest’s foreign representative in New York, Jan Chmelík. The American side was represented by the mayor of Philadelphia, Jim Kenney; the manager of Philadelphia International Airport, Chellie Cameron; and Olympia Colasante, vice-president of American Airlines at Philadelphia International Airport.

Philadelphia is American Airlines’ biggest hub in the northeast United States and can offer passengers from Prague a broad selection of connecting flights to a further 160 destinations in the US, Canada and the Caribbean. A founding member of the Oneworld airline alliance, American Airlines further serves Airports in Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas-Fort Worth, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Phoenix and Washington D.C.
