In Tokyo at the end of January, nearly 50,000 visitors had the opportunity to become familiar with the work of Czech scientists and firms at nano tech, the world’s biggest annual nanotechnology trade fair, which this year was focused mainly on the use of nanotechnologies in everyday live and in environmental protection. The participation of Czech firms was supported by CzechTrade, with assistance from CzechInvest’s Japanese office and the Czech embassy in Tokyo.

“Within the trade fair, we focused on the active acquisition of research and, mainly, industrial partners, as our results have already been prepared for commercialisation. Thanks to nano tech, we had been able to establish cooperation with the university in Shinshu in the preceding years,” says Jana Drašarová, dean of the Faculty of Textile Engineering at the Technical University of Liberec.

As the representative of the CLUTEX technical-textile cluster, the Faculty of Textile Engineering at the Technical University of Liberec used the Japanese trade fair as the venue for the initial presentation of its latest findings. In the area of tissue engineering, the faculty presented samples of nanofibre structures intended for production of globally unique small-diameter blood-vessel replacements, bone replacements, knee cartilage, hernia webbing and completely new alternatives to nanofibre structures for wound bandaging. Products from other areas of nanotechnology presented at the trade fair included, for example, application of nanofibrous membranes used in functional sport clothing and structures intended for biological treatment of wastewater.

This year’s fourteenth annual nano tech trade fair took place from 28 to 30 January. CzechInvest has participated in trade fair regularly since 2008. “The number of people attending nano tech increased again since last year. This trend is confirmed by our positive experience, so we have already reserved space for the fair in 2016,” says Eliška Nováková, director of CzechInvest’s office in Japan. The other presenters at the Czech pavilion were the companies SVCS, SVCS Process Innovation and Elmarco.
