  • In response to the coronavirus pandemic, an application for connecting supply with demand was put into operation and made available at www.covpoint.org at the end of March.
  • Those that can get involved in the still developing information system include the government, local authorities, academic facilities, private entities, non-profit organisations and communities.
  • Thanks to CoVpoint, which is administrated by CzechInvest and the Ministry of Industry and Trade and contains more than 1,400 items, sixty companies have connected with each other, twelve technology transfers are being carried out and the Czech Republic has brought together more than 90 projects in one place.

“The extraordinary measures, when protection of health must be the top priority, have completely changed communication in a very short time. It has been moved to the internet, to the online world, even where this period of often personal supply and demand is concerned. Our department operationally responded to this; we launched the Czech Network platform, part of which is the CoVpoint B2G and B2B portal, which currently contains more than 1,400 items,” says Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Trade Karel Havlíček.

“Czech Network and CovPoint are administrated by CzechInvest and the MIT. Both platforms were launched in a very short time, and not only digitalisation has taken on a completely different pace in our department in the context of the coronavirus. Of course, it is not just about being fast, as it is also necessary to have quality and specific results that are beneficial for the general public,” says Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade for Economic Policy Silvana Jirotková.

CoVpoint, which is administrated by CzechInvest, is coordinated by the MIT, and the Ministry of Health, Ministry of the Interior and Office of the Government are collaborating on the project. The Confederation of Industry is also involved in CovPoint in cooperation with the Chamber of Commerce.

“Thanks to CoVpoint, it was possible to connect a medical facility that needed masks and disinfectants with a company that produces them, and gloves for a care home and special children’s cotton gloves were also provided. In the area of technology transfer, 12 projects are currently underway; these involve, for example, masks from the Czech Technical University, a lung scanner from Linet and collaboration between Sigma and Acam Solution in the automation of a protective-filter production line,” says Patrik Reichl, CEO of CzechInvest

The CovPoint information system is currently staffed by eighty people working in two shifts, verifying the credibility of data, entering that data into the system and then linking supply and demand. “There is rising interest in CoVpoint, which is being used by the Central Crisis Staff, and we are therefore striving to administrate it in the best possible way,” says MIT Crisis Coordinator Robin Čumpelík, adding: “Students of the Faculty of International Relations at the University of Economics should thus newly get involved this week. That will be necessary, as we have recently launched on CoVpoint a B2B marketplace at https://covpoint.org/trziste with the possibility of search and filtering, and we are also preparing an overview of implemented projects.” The Czech Network platform, which serves as an informational guidepost for coronavirus projects from partners with which CzechInvest and the MIT are collaborating, is concurrently being expanded.
