GE Aviation successfully tests new type of engine in Prague

At the end of 2017, GE Aviation successfully completed the first trial of the its state-of-the-art Advance Turboprop (ATP) engine.

Testing of the ATP engine is a step toward fulfilling the investment contract that the company concluded with the government of the Czech Republic on construction of a new centre for development, testing and manufacturing of turboprop engines in the Czech Republic. The centre will eventually employ more than 500 people, having initially hired 180 workers starting on 1 June 2016; eighty more employees should be hired in 2018. Upon reaching full production capacity, the centre should manufacture more than 400 engines annually.

Certification trials of the ATP engine will begin in 2018. The engines are expected to be used in Cessna Denali private planes manufactured by Textron Aviation. The certification process should be completed by 2020.

GE Aviation has been operating in the Czech Republic since 2008. CzechInvest is assisting the company with the placement of its centre for research, development and production of new turboprop engines, including facilitation of contact with Czech suppliers.
