The 24th Annual Congress of the Automotive Industry took place in Zwickau, Germany, on Wednesday, 14 October 2020. The topic that permeated all of the presentations and panel discussions was structural change in the sector. Current forecasts anticipate that every fourth car manufactured in the next five years will be an electric vehicle. At present, automobiles are manufactured at 110 locations in Europe. Electric vehicles are manufactured at seventeen locations, two of which are in the Czech Republic, specifically in Nošovice and Mladá Boleslav.

Though all of the major German carmakers – BMW, Daimler and Volkswagen – have announced layoffs of tens of thousands of employees due to the decline in sales caused by the coronavirus crisis, they have also announced the creation of thousands of new jobs for electrical engineers and digital connectivity specialists.

In addition to electromobility, the speakers also focused on the development of hydrogen drive systems and alternative drive systems based on methanol compounds.

CzechInvest exhibited at the event by means of an information stand. Emphasis was placed on current possibilities of support for investments and innovations in the Czech Republic. With 150 participants, the congress was the largest autumn event in the automotive industry.
